Dividend Dave Interview

I had the chance to interview Dividend Dave. This guy produces excellent content, such as The Passive Income Podcast which can be found on YouTube. If you haven’t checked him out yet, I would definitely hop on over to his X account for YouTube account. The guy knows his stuff and if you are new to investing, check out him out. I want to say thank you to Dave for helping the next wave of new investors and helping contribute to the blog. Enjoy the interview.

Tell me a little about yourself. Your age, hobbies, career, etc. Whatever you feel comfortable sharing.

I’ll turn 51 in May. I’m actually a better snowboarder than most people would guess. I work in the purchasing/ logistics field.

How long have you been investing? In addition, what does your portfolio currently look like?

I’ve been investing for far too long to still be this broke. Lol! My portfolio consists primarily of dividend paying stocks on the TSX. I also have some crypto for fun.

What made you get into investing? Do you remember your first trade?

When I read The Wealthy Barber by David Chilton way back in the early 90’s.

What kind of investments do you prefer? How do you feel about crypto?

I guess I already sort of answered this question. I like seeing the cash roll in from dividends. Crypto is for fun.

What are your goals for your portfolio?  Is it a never ending process or do you have an end goal?

Turn That Cash Register Around. Investing in companies that bill me monthly. Cell phone, Electricity, Mortgage to name a few. The end goal is to have enough passive income from dividends that work becomes optional.

If married, does your partner invest with you? Together or separate? (Ignore if not married)

Probably one of the reasons for my divorce. She didn’t see the long term effects of dividend investing and growing a snowball. She only saw the first 9 cents and nothing more.

The market has been on the upswing, is it still a good time to buy in your opinion or should people wait?

ABB. Always be buying. The market will go up, go down, trade sideways. There is never a perfect time to invest. Just get on base.

What are some characteristics you feel an investor should have if they are to succeed?

Patience. Consistency. Discipline. The patience to know you are playing the long game. The consistency to Pay Yourself First every pay day. The discipline to have patience and consistency.

What advice would you give to a new investor right now? Is there a stock or stocks you would recommend for their first buy?

Just get on base. I call it my Moneyball reference. The movie with Brad Pitt and Johan Hill. Getting on base is the most important! Just get started!

Lastly, what was your biggest mistake when it came to investing?

I’ve made too many. I’d be here all day writing a rather lengthy novel.
